Rokole lies on the road from Slavoňov to Nový Hrádek. It is a Marian pilgrimage site that grew up around a place where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared.

The Chapel

At first, devoted worshippers hung a small Marian picture on a tree by a spring. Later, they built a wooden chapel, which was replaced by a brick chapel in 1859.

The Rokole Church

The neo-Gothic church dedicated to Our Lady of Rokole was commissioned in 1930 by the industrialist Ferdinand Přibyl from Nové Město nad Metují, on land he owned. It was not consecrated until 19 August 1945. Based on the image of the Virgin Mary in the chapel, sculptor Josef Marek created a statue that was placed on the main altar in the sanctuary.

Loreta

To the right of the Rokole church stands a wooden structure that pilgrims call Loreta, although it has nothing in common with the Holy House of Nazareth. It is a wooden, front-open gallery with paintings of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary hanging inside.

Stations of the Cross

In the forest on the opposite side, a Stations of the Cross was built as early as 1874—cast-iron reliefs mounted on stone pillars.

Schönstatt Chapel

After the fall of the totalitarian regime, the first original Schönstatt shrine in Bohemia was built in Rokole and consecrated on 19 July 1997—a copy of the original chapel in Schönstatt. It is the 143rd Schönstatt chapel in the world and carries the ideal (mission) of “Bethlehem”. In its foundations, beneath the altar, a cornerstone from the original Schönstatt chapel is embedded; it was blessed by Pope John Paul II in Rome.

The Couples Path

This trail starts by the benches and leads past small ponds. Along the way you’ll find 15 panels with texts and sculptures. Each stop reflects on ordinary milestones in life—such as finding your soulmate, searching for a home, welcoming children, and growing older.
